My second head kerchief design.
This one is very romantic in feeling and uses an icord to tie it onto your head. It is just as lovely as my first but uses many different techniques then the first.
This is another great design for beginner knitters and can be knit up in a few hours by an experienced knitter.
Enjoy my friends and remember to knit what you love and love what you knit.

Join in contrasting color and knit in straight garter stitch (no increases) for 8 rows, slipping the 1st stitch of each row.
Set up row for bind off:
Sl 1 st knit wise, Purl row
Begin icord bind off as follows:
Cast on 4 sts using the backwards loop method onto the left hand needle.
K3 sts, sl1 knit wise, k1, psso
Transfer 4 sts back into working needle (left needle).
Continue in pattern until you have only the 4 live sts (from the icord) on the needles.
Using backward loop method cast on 1 st
You will continue to knit an icord to create the cording to tie the kerchief onto your head. There are two methods to knit the icord,
Suggested length of each icord: 7-8”
Option 1: US 3 double pointed needles:
*Slide needles to the right side of the working or left needle.
Bring the yarn behind your work over to the right-hand side.
Insert the right needle into the next stitch from left to right and knit normally.
Pull firmly on this stitch to tighten up.
Knit remaining stitches.
Slide stitches on your needle along to the other end of the needle. Don’t forget: Do not to turn your work! Repeat the knit process.*
Continue knitting, not turning but sliding your live sts to the other end of the needle as described above until your i-cord is as long as you need it to be…
Option 2: US 3 circular needles
*Slip all stitches back to the left needle purlwise (so point to point) one at a time.
Bring the yarn behind the work over to the right hand side.
Insert the right needle into the next stitch from left to right and knit normally.
Pull firmly on this stitch to tighten up.
Knit remaining stitches.*
Repeat until icord is desired length…
Cast off
2nd icord:
Now with the right side of the fabric facing you pick up 4 sts along the edge where the icord begins.
Cast on 1 st using the backward loop method
Knit an icord 7-8” in length
Cast off
Weave in ends and block loosely….Enjoy!
